Whether it’s offering a credit card bail system to inmates or a VINE notification system to allow victims to check on the release of prisoners, The Westchester County Department of Correction is serving the public with an efficiently operated, secure and humane correction system.
The county’s jail complies with all local, state and Federal legal requirements as well as nationally accepted professional correctional standards.
The department is responsible for the custody of males and females 16 years and older who have been remanded by Westchester County or New York State courts.
Located in Valhalla, New York, the Westchester County Department of Correction encompasses nearly 1/2 mile, with more than 940,000 square feet of building space.
On January 1, 1969 the Westchester County Department of Correction was formed from units of the former Westchester County Sheriff's Department and the Westchester County Department of Social Services and placed under a central administration with a Commissioner appointed by the County Executive.
The Department is currently comprised of three divisions; Administration, Jail, Penitentiary and is headed by Commissioner Rocco A. Pozzi.
