As its name suggests, the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilites oversees the operations of various facilities that deal with the environment. These include the: - County's Material Recovery Facility (the recycling center)
- Charles Point Resources Recovery Facility
- Garbage transfer stations
- County sewer treatment plants
- Four county water districts
The department is responsible for all recycling efforts of the county, including Household Recycling Days. The commissioner of the department is Thomas Lauro. NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Quarterly Reports The County of Westchester Department of Environmental Facilities (DEF), in accordance with an order on consent between it and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), submits quarterly reports to the NYSDEC.
